I absolutely love an adventure. And traveling, well for me traveling is the next best thing to breathing. Jeff Davis not only took me on a world adventure, but left me breathless with his words of wisdom and inspiration. I laughed and I cried, and loved every minute of it!
I thought Traveling Triumphs was a pretty good book. It was a bit choppy/disconnected in places. Sometimes I wish there were more transitions between stories to make the book flow more and seem more like an entire life and less like a collection of stories. Also, notice you always seem to describe women the same way with a basic physical description. Overall it was enjoyable though and you had some crazy adventures. I really liked the theme that overall people are pretty cool and nice (albeit there are a few crazies out there).
What a fun book to read! Jeff certainly was triumphant in his traveling adventures. But as improbable as some of the circumstances he finds himself in seem; many of the situations can happen to anyone traveling alone. Jeff offers great advice, insight and has exemplary self-reflection. A great read for anyone and especially for someone thinking of traveling abroad. I also liked the links to the video clips at the end of each chapter. It personalized the reading experience. I highly recommend this book.
Jeff's book was astounding. I expected an interesting story, but I didn't realize what Jeff experienced until I read it. Loved Jeff's honesty and his writing style, it was personal. I mean, in a way all books are personal, but Jeff took it to a new level. That was his strength. There were certain parts of the story that could have flowed better and could have been tighter with slightly better editing, but other than that Jeff nailed. Very happy to have gotten to know Jeff through his stories and I look forward to see what else he comes up with if he chooses to continue to write books.
This book opens up the door to travel and gives a glimpse into one man's experiences. Jeff Davis is incredibly open with this snapshot of his life and each experience adds to the overall story. Travel can be a life-changing adventure and this book may give you the urge to strike out on a journey of your own. Definitely worth a read !
The book is amazing! If you are hit by the travel bug and looking to take your experiences to the next level, this book is for you! If you want to vicariously live the travel life, this book is a real life adventure and a great read.
Davis commits wholeheartedly to his trip and himself, and in the process reveals important lessons about travel and life in the process.
As a backpacker myself, I can say he captures the essence of authentic travel and even takes it to a new level. Traveling this way is about challenging yourself. The more of yourself to bring to each moment, the more you get from each one of them. Jeff shows us how to bring it by listening to his instincts, acting on them, going with the flow, trusting, and having self confidence.
The experiences are colorfully described and stripped down to the core. You live the trip with him and learn the lessons by example. They rivet you while highlighting the ups and downs that travel seems to magnify.
For those that are on the spiritual journey, his experiences tap into the energies of the universe, and prove that when you get into the flow, things start coming together perfectly and without effort. This book is about life's journey above all else.
At first, I thought this book to be another in a very long list of 'this is what I did on my summer vacation' tributes. But...after the first paragraph I was proven wrong. Incredibly wrong. Jeffrey Davis shares with readers an incredible story of a very positive and upbeat man with the courage and drive to live the life less ordinary. Traveling Triumphs delivers exactly what it promises - a ring side seat into the amazing adventures the author undertakes while studying abroad. Not only does he learn some very great things while at University, he learns even more valuable life lessons while experiencing Europe, lessons he so eagerly shares with readers, not as a 'look what I've done' statement, but a 'look what I've done and YES YOU can do it too!' exclamation. I urge everyone who has ever had a dream to live their life as it was meant to be lived to read this book. You won't be sorry you did. AND, you may even be inspired to begin your own incredible journey!
